Isogeometric Analysis in HPC: Object Oriented Design and Open Source Massively Parallel Implementation

In this paper we present an implementation of isogeometric data structures and algorithms into the deal.II library. The most important points to consider when designing an isogeometric library are related to the extension of the usual finite element isoparametric concept, to the implementation of Bernstein polynomials as finite element basis functions and to the correct treatment of higher inter element continuity. In this work we propose a set of opensource tools which complement the existing data structures of the deal.II library to tackle the listed issues. We use this implementation to present a close and fair comparison between isogeometric analysis and standard finite element analysis.
